QR-Code Provisioning for IP Telephony

Deploying around a hundred Yealink handsets meant configuring each one by hand, with mistyped extensions surfacing weeks later as phones ringing for the wrong person. We built an admin panel plus QR-code provisioning backed by the Mango Office API, so on-site deployment is a scan per phone. Delivered as a two-day sprint.

The problem we were asked to solve

Deploying around a hundred Yealink IP handsets across a site meant configuring each one by hand: entering SIP credentials, server addresses and per-extension settings through the phone's own interface or its web panel, one device at a time. The work is slow, and worse, it is the kind of slow work that produces errors — a mistyped extension surfaces later as a phone that rings for the wrong person, diagnosed by an engineer who has to trace it back through a hundred nearly-identical configurations. The IT department wanted deployment reduced to something a non-specialist could perform on site, with the configuration itself generated from a single authoritative source.

What we built

Admin web panel

A single interface where handset configurations are defined and managed centrally, replacing per-device manual entry and giving the department one place to see what each extension is supposed to be.

QR-code provisioning

Each handset is provisioned by scanning a generated QR code that carries its configuration. On-site deployment becomes a scan per phone, performed by whoever is physically present rather than by a telephony specialist.

Mango Office API integration

Extensions and telephony settings are pulled from the Mango Office platform, so provisioning reflects the live PBX configuration instead of a manually maintained copy that goes stale.

Containerised deployment

Shipped as a Docker deployment so the department could run it on its own infrastructure without a bespoke installation process.

What changed for the client

Provisioning roughly one hundred handsets dropped from per-device manual configuration to a scan per phone, and the misconfiguration class of support tickets went with it — configurations come from the PBX rather than from typing. The project was delivered as a focused two-day sprint and closed on completion; the department continues to run the tool for subsequent handsets.
